Cheap Noises Off

...I lose my mind with laughter. Most of the lucky minority of comedy fans who have discovered "Noises Off" probably have other favorite scenes. One bored Friday in the late '80's I scanned the movie reviews and was amazed that this movie, with its flawless cast, was playing. I hadn't seen one TV ad or movie trailer.

The film shows the insanity and eccentricities of the cast, crew, and director of a farce on its way to Broadway. The first half shows the dress rehearsal, which also shows us how the play is supposed to go. Next we see a feuding cast during a Miami Beach matineee, this time from backstage. By Cleveland all hell has broken loose. Will they pull themselves together by the Broadway opening? I'm not saying.

Watching this now (2008-2010), it's hard not to feel sad about the early losses of John Ritter and Christopher Reeve, with Denholm Elliott gone as well. Reeve, Ritter, and Burnett are the most spectacular of one of the best ensembles I've ever seen. Caine is the sardonic director, Marilu Henner is the upbeat cast cheerleader, Nicolette Sheridan the cast ditz (though she gets her lines right). Special mention to Julie Hagerty and Mark Linn-Baker as crew members running themselves ragged trying in vain to keep things together.

This is extra swell if you've ever been involved with theater at any level. It aspires to take everything that usually goes wrong with almost any production and shifts it into super-overdrive. I hope the cast and crew of this film had as much fun making this as I had watching it!Get more detail about Noises Off.

Book was OK for inspiration, but it seemed very dated. I was hoping to see more floor plans, too. I love her and her show so I was excited when I saw this book online but when I got it was kind of blah...
Pretty good though for more of a sneak peek into Candice's personal life and how she grew up, etc. It was interesting.Get more detail about Candice Olson on Design: Inspiration and Ideas for Your Home.

Purchase Tiepolo Pink

Roberto Calasso's newest book, //Tiepolo Pink//, is a study of Giambattista Tiepolo (1695-1769), a classic Venetian painter of the Rococo period. Calasso must no doubt be the foremost authority on this Old Master who has largely been left to history, and he brings an incredible amount of insight and research to his subject. However, this book is by no means for the casual reader, as his references are often unexplained and his allusions at times hard to follow. For example, Calasso fixates, without much explanation, on Tiepolo's //sprezzatura//, or the Italian art of executing great works effortlessly, and fills his book with sentences like "Tiepolo: the last breath of happiness in Europe" without any further elaboration.

Perhaps of most interest to the art history community is that Calasso spends almost a third of his book addressing Tiepolo's strange and unexplained series of drawings called the //Scherzi//. These untitled drawings feature a crew of satyrs, owls, "Orientals," and maidens that, according to Calasso, foreshadow the modern era of painting. In the end, //Tiepolo Pink// is much like jumping into a graduate-level art history class midterm: you might not get all of the references, but the professor's passion keeps you paying attention.

Order No Exit and Three Other Plays

Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) is extremely difficult to approach, for his reputation rests heavily upon the work BEING AND NOTHINGNESS: AN ESSAY ON PHENOMENOLOGICAL ONTOLOGY--an extremely complex work that many regard as the single greatest work of 20th Century philosophy and which is largely beyond the grasp of everyone but the most gifted philosophers themselves. Fortunately for the rest of us, Sartre translated his vision of the world into more accessible forms. Although his novel NAUSEA is widely known, he is more likely to be known for his plays--and for one in particular, the celebrated NO EXIT. This collection includes that play (in French titled HUIS CLOS), THE FLIES (LES MOUCHES), DIRTY HANDS (LES MAINS SALES) and THE RESPECTFUL PROSTITUTE (LA PUTAIN RESPECTUEUSE.) Each of these plays in some way revolve around ideas of self-determination, freedom of choice, and responsibility to one's self, addressing issues that are at the heart of French existentialism.

Unlike many European dramatists of his era, Sartre was not an absurdist author per se, and while his plays sometimes make use of an unexpected premise, they are generally naturalistic in tone. NO EXIT, first played in 1944, is easily the most famous: a man and two women, none of them of any great moral or intellectual worth, are led into a small room. It gradually transpires that they are dead--and that they are completely incompatible. This is hell: humans determined to impose their wills and ideas and visions upon unwilling others, working without ceasing to undercut each other in a vain effort to gain individual advantage. Written in a single act and requiring about ninety minutes to perform, it is easily one of the most intense plays ever seen on stage, a combination of intellectual and emotional ferocity beyond easy description. It is truly one of the great masterpieces of western drama.

The other titles are less well known to English-speaking audiences. Of them THE FLIES is the most widely performed. Pre-dating NO EXIT by a year, it is a full-length drama based on the ancient Greek ORESTIA, in which Orestes returns to his home--but unlike the original he has no intention of avenging his father's murder until he realizes that he can freely elect to do so as long as he freely embraces the consequences of his actions. As in most of Sartre's works, much of the play revolves around the necessity of the individual to define himself for himself, and often in rejection of the manipulative status quo, and the play possesses tremendous theatrical sweep. The characters are elegantly and powerfully redrawn from the Greek revenge tragedy, and the overall play itself has the power of its ritualistic orgins.

DIRTY HANDS debuted in 1948 and proved extremely controversial, albeit for reasons that Sartre himself may not have foreseen. In general terms, it is the story of a World War II communist party worker who, on party orders, commits murder and who is afterward shocked to find how utterly meaningless his act has been--ideas and issues that are very typical of Sartre's work. But the play's story pitted one faction of the communist party against another, questioned how effectively any person could define themselves within a political system, and in doing so thoroughly outraged half the nation. Almost three decades had to pass before it was once more performed in France. This said, it is easily the most problematic of the four plays; it seems unduly long, unduly dry, a bit awkward in construction, and very obvious in its statements.

Like NO EXIT, THE 1946 THE RESPECTFUL PROSTITUTE is a one act, and although it does not rise to same artistic level as NO EXIT or THE FLIES it has unique sting nonetheless. The play, somewhat surprisingly, is set in a small town in the deep south of the United States, where a newly arrived prostitute finds herself caught up a drunken murder that gives rise to a double killing calculated to cover up the first crime. Again, issues of self-determination arise, but on this occasion with an unexpected twist: the central character, the prostitute, is a woman of no particular intelligence. She is just smart enough to know that she has been duped and manipulated, but not smart enough to sort out the implications and ramifications of her situation as it unfolds. The play has an undeniable power, but Sartre is writing outside his direct knowledge here, and although technically accurate, his portrait of southern racism does not ring entirely true.

Whenever I review plays I like to note that plays are not really written to be read. They are intended to be seen and heard on the stage, and many readers find it difficult to envision how a particular script will play out before an audience. The fact that each of these four plays has considerable philosophical depth may add to the difficulties involved. NO EXIT is a masterpiece, no doubt about it, and I think most people will find it highly readable--and I think most people will find THE FLIES not far behind. THE RESPECTFUL PROSTITUTE is flawed, and it may leave some readers wondering at the point, but it is short and worth the effort. DIRTY HANDS is probably best left to those who are more interested in Sartre's overall work than those who just want to read a good play. Recommended overall, and given five stars on the basis of NO EXIT and THE FLIES, with RESPECTFUL PROSTITUTE rated at four stars and DIRTY HANDS at three.

Where To Buy Complete Do-It-Yourself Manual: Completely Revised and Updated

I consider myself lucky to own this guide. The guide is straight forward and to the point, focusing not only on the steps to take, but also the precautions and pitfalls of projects. Even if you don't know a thing about home improvement this guide can walk you through many different situations step by step. It also features a good introduction to Do-It-Yourself(D-I-Y), the tools, the mentality, and the safety.

The only problem I had with this guide, is that it made some projects look easier then they actually are (sort of like home improvement shows on the television).

I would recommend this guide to anyone who is thinking about home improvement but isn't sure whether to hire a contractor or attempt to D-I-Y. I would also recommend this guide to people who like using the internet to learn D-I-Y projects as published printings tend to be more reliable then internet "hearsay".Get more detail about Complete Do-It-Yourself Manual: Completely Revised and Updated.

Freakin' Fabulous: How to Dress, Speak, Behave, Eat, Drink, Entertain, Decorate, and Generally Be Better than Everyone Else Review

This was a gift for my adopted daughter. She is a teenager, and, let us say, a little rough around the edges. She had no interest in her appearance or appropriate behavior, but got interested in What Not to Wear. She likes Clinton and Stacey, so I bought this book for her, and she READ IT!! It's pretty light reading, but there is a lot of good and accurate information, making me hope for some behavior changes she makes on her own instead of me nagging her. She has taken interest in clothes and style finally, so I think this book will help her further her "finishing."

I know it's tricky giving a book like this, but she is my daughter. I would recommend this book for any young woman who wants to feel more confident about herself and her behavior and style.Get more detail about Freakin' Fabulous: How to Dress, Speak, Behave, Eat, Drink, Entertain, Decorate, and Generally Be Better than Everyone Else.

The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes (Calvin and Hobbes Series) Get it now!

This book collects two of my favorite Calvin & Hobbes Books: Revenge of the Baby-Sat, and Scientific Progress goes "Boink." The illustrations are mostly in black and white, but some are in color. Watterson's magnificent blend of simple childhood humor, advanced appropriate grown-up humor, make-believe and childhood realism make this well written and illustrated comic strip a treasure to have in any household. Both adults and children will love it and find themselves laughing silly!

As with all of the Calvin & Hobbes books, this one explores the adventures of a six year old boy (Calvin) and his best friend, Hobbes, a make believe tiger. The comic-strips focus on things such as Calvin's overactive imagination, his hatred of school and girls and the trials and tribulations of having to follow his parents' rules.

The Gashlycrumb Tinies Order Now

While I was down in my man cave I happened to come across a show called "American Idol". I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with this show, but apparently it consists of four middle aged adults picking on young kids who can carry a tune in the middle of a Ford and/or Coca-Cola commercial. In any event, I was engaged in a lead pressing event - squats - so I couldn't change the channel to something more manly, such as anything on Spike TV... thus I ended up watching. Most of the contestants were pretty boring, however one came out on stage and begun singing my favorite Rolling Stones song, Paint it Black. The singer, Siobhan Magnus (thank goodness they write the names out with the phone numbers) did a great job singing it - good enough that I squeezed out a few extra reps at 4,500 pounds each...

In any event, what caught my attention most was the tattoo on her right shoulder. It was of a little dead guy holding an umbrella. I looked it up and discovered The Gashlycrumb Tinies.

The book details the suspicious deaths of over two dozen children. If this doesn't have serial killer written all over it, then I'm the Pope. How does George get smothered under a rug? Earnest choked on a peach? Zillah drank too much gin? How did she even get access to alcohol? I smell cover up. Perhaps if Gorey dove into the back stories of these "deaths" we might be able to gather some evidence to uncover the real story behind Kate and her unfortunate encounter with an axe.

That said, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the death and mayhem portrayed in the book. Believe me folks, having been on a 14 hour flight to Frankfurt (don't ask) with a kid crying/yelling/kicking my seat/and throwing up during 12 of those hours, I can relate to Edward Gorey's murderous impulses. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on his inspiration for this book coming from his airplane travels.

Who doesn't like seeing kids murdered in unusual ways? Now please excuse me as there are two men in suits ringing my doorbell...Get more detail about The Gashlycrumb Tinies.

Save The Frogs

As the only ancient Greek comedian whose work has survived, Aristophanes' importance is impossible to exaggerate. He has not only immensely influenced comedy - and drama and literature generally - but is also practically the only source giving any idea what Greek comedy was like, making his work of immense historical value. Of course, as with all comedy that is truly universal, one need not know or even think about any of this. He is more than entertaining in his own right - indeed, still screamingly funny. Reading him, we get a profound sense of just how little comedy has changed. It is not just that what was funny nearly 2,500 years ago is still funny; techniques are basically unchanged, subject matter only being ephemeral. Aristophanes was above all a satirist, which inevitably means that many of the things he mocked and parodied are no longer intelligible without notes. We can still appreciate these with help, but what truly makes him worth reading is that the spirit of the satire - what really matters in contrast to passing fodder - continues to shine through distinctly. Human folly has changed little - has probably only increased if anything. His general observations are thus still funny - and, to those who look below the surface, still damning. Perhaps more immediately, it is striking to see that humor many think of as distinctly modern - religious blasphemy, bathroom humor, sexual humor - was as common and at least as good this long ago. Aristophanes also delights in more "serious" humor like puns and other wordplay; simply put, whether one prefers high- or low-brow, he has something for all. Humor aside, his sheer creativity still impresses; his plots and characters show near-boundless imagination and would be a significant accomplishment in even the most ostensibly serious artist. All this makes him almost unbelievably accessible - in translation of course; his tragedian contemporaries take a certain mindset and considerable dedication to appreciate, all but excluding casual readers. However, anyone can read Aristophanes with enjoyment, which is not the least of his virtues.

The Frogs may be Aristophanes' masterpiece. He satirized tragedians frequently, but this is notable in focusing almost entirely on them; indeed, Aeschylus and Euripides are characters. It ostensibly does little more than roast the latter in the former's favor and would be entertaining enough if it did nothing else; whether or not we agree, it is hard to deny some of the mocking points - and impossible not to laugh. However, there is far more to the play; it essentially delineates the two main ways that Athenians looked at the world as epitomized by these dramatists. The pros and cons of both are shown, but Aristophanes clearly favors the Aeschylean mode, poking relentless fun at the Euripidean. This had great sociopolitical significance for many reasons - not least because of looming war - but was also broadly philosophical, which is why it is still very much pertinent. But again, one need not worry that humor is lacking; the play is downright hilarious and has Aristophanes' funniest and most memorable songs. It is quite simply one of the best comedies ever.

Buy The Negative (Ansel Adams Photography, Book 2)

This is the 2nd book in Ansel Adams photography series. I really cant stress enough the importance of reading all 3 of these books and reading them in their proper order. Ansel talks about a lot of techniques and many of these techniques build upon previous knowledge. If your serious enough about photography to have an interest in these books then you should want to do it right and doing it right is buying all 3 books and reading them in order.

The negative is imo the most important book in the series and this is because this book really teaches you the ins and outs of the Zone System, which in case your unaware is the photographic technique for determining optimal film exposure and development. On top of that its a pre-visualization tool that really makes you understand how a scene is translated into a photographic image. There is no better system in photography period. If you take the time to learn the zone system from top to bottom, I guarantee you will become a photographer who is in complete control of the photographic techniques required to make an amazing final print. If you want to become a master or just a great photographer, there is no better place to start than learning the zone system.

As I have said in my reviews of the other books in this series, this is not a series for a beginner and this book in particular will be extremely difficult for a beginner to stomach. While this is probably the best written technical book in all of photography, some of it can still be incredibly difficult for beginners to grasp. If your a beginner I recommend reading a beginner photography book. One that will teach you the basics. Once you have a solid foundation of the basics, then start on this series.

I wont bother going into any more detail in regards to what this book teaches. That would take too much time and it would make this review way too long. As the name of the book clearly states, this book's focus is on the negative and as I am sure your aware the neg is the shot. If you screw up the neg, chances are nothing you can do will fix the image. This book will teach you how to get that perfect neg each and every time regardless of conditions.

The bottom line - This is hands down the best 3 book series on photography ever made. If you are serious about photography and want to learn how to master shooting and printing in black and white then look no further.Get more detail about The Negative (Ansel Adams Photography, Book 2).

Purchase The Life of Michelangelo Buonarroti

Miguel Angel is to say in Carlyle words , the Hero made Artist .
If we had more individualities with his courage , the symphony of the civilization would be more glorious .
If we persisted in search of the affinities of such artist we would find them in Beethoven . If not go and listen the last quartets of Beethoven (Op. 130 and 132, for instance) and proceed to watch the last works of Miguelangelo . You will not find another music more appropriate which illuminates with so fevered state, intriguing pathos and dark clouds mood . He, as the legitimate son of the ancient Greeks lived in the right time and in the right place Florence to show the world the Renaissance not only was the most important artistic movement of the mankind story but it was more than necessary a figure of his stature appeared in the middle of this land .
He belonged to the lineage of the deep characters , violents , greatful , that strengthens and fight passionately.
Miguel Angel was the timeless inspiration to many other thinkers , writers and artists such as William Blake, Goethe, Beethoven , Liszt, Mendelssohn, Lord Byron , Carlyle and Fürtwangler, among others and even his legacy seems to have not any kind of restrictions.
The author makes a careful study and explores dilatory every stage of his complex life with magnificent illustrations and broad gusto that it represents an exquisite refinement exercise for the intellect and mind to read this fundamental biography
The description of the Sistine Chapel is simply a imagination triumph and the highest and supreme good taste .

Bat Wing Best Quality

There's a lot more to Sax Rohmer than his Fu Manchu novels. Some years back, I bought a cache of Rohmer's books published by A.L. Burt in the teens and twenties, some from the Fu Manchu series, but others with delightfully lurid titles such as The Golden Scorpion, The Green Eyes of Bast, and The Dream Detective, the latter featuring the wondrous Moris Klaw, a blind detective with extra-sensory powers.

From time to time I dip into this reservoir for a completely escapist read. These novels, despite being dated and notoriously full of racial stereotypes, fairly pop off the page. Rohmer knew how to spin a yarn, and Bat Wing is no exception. The tale involves a haughty Spanish colonel and a secret too dark, too deep, to divulge. Rohmer's detective hero, Paul Harvey, is in the mold of Sherlock Holmes, and of course he has a trusted friend who doubles as the narrator much as Dr. Watson does. Together they unravel the sinister mystery, encountering voodoo rites, vampire bats, an Edgar Allen Poe-esque writer, and other fantastic developments en route to the sensational ending.Get more detail about Bat Wing.

A Christmas Carol Get it now!

"A Christmas Carol" is not just A Christmas story, but one of THE Christmas stories -- not only is it instantly recognizable by pretty much everybody, but it's relentlessly copied and spoofed in countless Christmas specials. But taken just by itself, Charles Dickens' yuletide novella is a pretty bleak and bittersweet affair, with brilliant imagery and lots of ghostly weirdness.

Scrooge is... well, a scrooge -- a professional miser who hates Christmas, goodwill, charity, puppies, kittens, his relatives, his employees, and virtually everything else except money.

And on Christmas Eve, his dead partner Jacob Marley comes back, wrapped with supernatural chains, and claims that Scrooge is doomed to the same fate. But he has a chance at redemption: three ghosts representing will visit him that night, taking him on a guided tour of Christmases past, present and yet to come.

So Scrooge is transported on a trio of hourlong trips through time. The childlike Ghost of Christmas Past takes him to his bleak childhood, when he was less jaded and hard. The jolly Ghost of Christmas Present takes him to people's homes on the very next morning, specifically of of his nephew and the poor miner Bob Cratchit. And finally a Ringwraith-like spirit gives him a glimpse of Christmas years in the future... a bleak and terrible future, unless he changes his ways.

You can read plenty of symbolism into a story like "A Christmas Carol"; I've heard speculation about Dickens' father, the Industrial Revolution, spiritualism, and all sorts of other stuff. But at its heart, "A Christmas Carol" is the most powerful when appreciated for its story alone -- a story about a greedy, miserable man who redeems himself by learning to love all humanity.

Dickens' writing is utterly brilliant here. Most of the book is bleak, grimy and painted in shadows, with Dickens only rarely holding back from showing the dark situation of England's poor. A great example is the symbolic children Want and Ignorance ("a stale and shrivelled hand, like that of age, had pinched, and twisted them, and pulled them into shreds"). As for the Grim-Reaperlike third ghost, it's the stuff of nightmares.

But all isn't dark here. Occasionally Dickens splashes it with moments of crystalline brilliance ("It held a branch of fresh green holly in its hand; and... its dress trimmed with summer flowers"). And as dark as the book is, Dickens offers hope for the future.

He also does a brilliant job with Scrooge, " a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner! Hard and sharp as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire." Having worked hard to make us hate Scrooge, Dickens then deftly displays his skill at slowly revealing how Scrooge became who and what he is, and slowly redeeming him.

It is virtually impossible to write the definitive review of "The Zen of Creativity" because, like the koans it contains, this book will elicit no single, uniform response from those who read it. I hesitate even to use the word "read" because the book asks for a response well beyond simply reading it. The quotes and koans alone require unhurried contemplation. One way to treat this book is to take a contemplative walk through it over a number of months, experimenting here and there with the practices John Daido Loori describes. You may be surprised at the new depth you achieve in your chosen art medium as a result, whether it is photography, painting, writing or music making.

I once owned two copies of Mozart's concerto for flute and orchestra No 1 (K313). One version had perfect technique and the passages were as smooth as cream, but it left me unmoved. I gave it away. The recording I kept has a rough texture in places, but it dances with joy. It demonstrates the essence of what Loori is talking about.

"The Zen of Creativity" is not just a play on the word "zen." It IS zen. Neither does it mimic the popular format of "Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance" as so many other authors have done. Loori draws the reader into the very nature of the creative process itself, giving far less importance to technical skills. In fact, if you are looking for ways to improve your artistic competence, you will need to look further afield. Loori's focus is on making a work of art real rather than on making it commercial. His quote from Leonardo Da Vinci is apt; "Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art."

There are many useful books on art techniques out now that teach how to apply your art medium in a skilful way. But none of these provide what "The Zen of Creativity" does in helping the artist recreate the essence of what he or she sees.

If "The Zen of Creativity" seems too great a leap into the philosophy of art, a simple introduction to these concepts can be found in a book produced by the Society of Layerists in Multi-Media (SLMM.) It is "The Art of Layering: Making Connection." Short excerpts from the book are available on their website. For photographers, "The Tao of Photography" by Tom Ang has much the same philosophy of putting heart into one's art.

Lowest Price Face Painting (How to Make)

Generally speaking, ALL Usborne books are great. This one is no exception.

It is a great book to give you some great techniques. You learn step by step different kinds of faces and then you can use those ideas to create your own way of doing it. The publishers do not waste space giving you every possible example of a vampire or dog or whatever. You learn what you need quick & easy and then you make your own ideas work.

If you do not know how or have been out of practice (like me) or looking for some new ideas, this is a great book.Get more detail about Face Painting (How to Make).

Low Price The Fifth Elephant (Modern Plays)

In this abridged audio version, the story line became disjointed. The clues to
characters and plot, and the setup for sudden puns and allusions that make Terry Pratchett books
astonishing were wiped out of context. Also, I was disappointed that the reader didn't use a range of voices and accents. The experience was like eating dry toast.
I returned this product and bought the book. I am a HUGE Terry Pratchett fan.Get more detail about The Fifth Elephant (Modern Plays).

Discount Animalia

What is with the hidden swastikas in the pictures? This book would be wonderful for children. Why put such a horrid symbol in a child's book?? It was a very silly and cruel thing for the author to do, and it ruin an otherwise beautiful and fascinating book.Get more detail about Animalia.

Cheapest Off-Camera Flash: Creative Techniques for Digital Photographers

I have many books published by Amherst Media, and I do not usually write reviews for the books I purchase (in case you decide to examine my "other" reviews). "Off-camera Flash" is a BIG disappointment, and I have requested a refund from Amazon. I am SHOCKED at the number of 5-star reviews for this book, and can only conclude that they are from friends/past students of the author(s) or complete amateurs to flash photography.

For starters, the majority of photos are all VERY DARK, and in my opinion, underexposed. As is typical when shooting outdoors with speedlites (off-camera portable flashes), photos are key-shifted with a darker background. However, in this execution, *both* the backgrounds and the subjects (models) are dark and underexposed. This is not "attractive" flash photography. The photos appear dark and lifeless.
A background should only be key-shifted down about 1/2 to 1 stop from the ambient light. The examples provided appear to be at least 2 stops under, and what's worse, the model/subject is also at least 1/2 to 2/3 stops underexposed in most cases.

There are images in this book where the photographer has walked into the ocean in 4-feet of water to capture an image (fully dressed), and even then the model is underexposed! There is a section on macro photography in the book and these photos are excellent, however.

This book provides some basic advice/suggestions on triggering equipment (cheap radio triggers), and a handful of different light modifiers that can be used. Other than that, you will be left to go out and experiment completely on your own. In my opinion, a much better choice would be "Minimalist Lighting" by Kirk Tuck (also published by Amherst Media), or if you want to be REALLY wowed, do a Google search for "David Hobby" and purchase his "Strobist Lighting Seminar" DVD series. It's expensive, but worth every penny.

Cheap 500 Poses for Photographing Brides: A Visual Sourcebook for Professional Digital Wedding Photographers

The poses are excellent. However, a quick inspection reveals that nearly all of the photos require extensive use of off-camera flash to create the shadows and capture the moment. I'm becoming a strobist and hopefully will be a fast student on these techniques if I have any hope of duplicating these poses. I didn't even have a clue what a strobist was until a few weeks ago.Get more detail about 500 Poses for Photographing Brides: A Visual Sourcebook for Professional Digital Wedding Photographers.

Buying Grace Kelly Style: Fashion for Hollywood's Princess

Because this book was from the Victoria & Albert museum - presumably the accompaniment to an exhibit about Grace Kelly fashion - I really expected the photography to be of much higher caliber than it was. The clothes on exhibit were photographed from odd angles and didn't have the sharp lens focus that I have seen in other museum-published books. I appreciate that the intent was to focus on some detail of the dress (side strap close-up of the "Oscar dress"), but we also never got to see the dress showcased, sometimes only the live or "press" photo of Grace Kelly wearing the outfit (and then the view of the clothes was circumstantial and at times partially hidden). As a person interested in the exquisite "iconic" fashion worn by Grace Kelly and fashion construction overall, I was disappointed. The text with the photos was trite; a rehashing of captions and descriptions that had been used already with many Grace Kelly photos. The best photo is on the front cover, and even here the color values seemed to be a little off. I have seen the photo before in better focus thereby giving the viewer a good look at the two tone bodice as well as the skillful piece work. Perhaps the V&A exhibit had a catalog that showcased the fashion to better advantage? I hope so because this book, though expensive to publish, doesn't do it.Get more detail about Grace Kelly Style: Fashion for Hollywood's Princess.

Don't be fooled thinking this is a full size notebook, it is small. If I open my hand and lay my hand flat open this notebook fits inside that space. Where To Buy Mastering AutoCAD 2010 and AutoCAD LT 2010

If you are brand new to AutoCAD, this book may be a bit difficult to understand. The author describes some of the more complicated commands before you really get a grasp of the program. If you have used AutoCAD before, this is an excellent reference with a lot of great information. The book does come with a 30 day trial version of AutoCAD 2010. I'm not saying don't buy the book if your new, it might just take a little while to grasp some of the concepts. I bought the book, since AutoCAD started using the ribbon. So far, I am very happy.Get more detail about Mastering AutoCAD 2010 and AutoCAD LT 2010.
