AutoCAD 2010 For Dummies Best Quality

Great book and easy to follow compared to other reference books for AutoCad. Very detailed w/o confusing a novice. It has detailed step by step directions, but doesn't confuse you with an overload of information. I completed my AutoCad certification and have very basic knowledge about the program. Certification took me 3 months and the teacher went very quickly through topics in the class. Having this book and practicing at home is absolutely necessary to master AutoCad. This book is perfect for someone who has little exposure to AutoCad / Engineering tools and wants to take it to the next level. AutoCad is a fun program in general! I am not very tech savy when it comes to complicated computer programs so this book was perfect for me.Get more detail about AutoCAD 2010 For Dummies.

Iron Man: The Art Of Iron Man The Movie TPB Buy Now

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R34ETRGAPHIH9U I'm glad they did a reprint for this book because it's a great book. There are actually people trying to sell this at hundreds -- note the plural -- of dollars. My copy is actually the hardcover but I borrowed the paperback version from a friend to check if there are any differences. There are none. The paperback features exactly similar content as the hardcover, right down to the paper stock. For that reason, I've just copied my old review from Iron Man: The Art of Iron Man, the Movie(hardcover) and pasted here, with minor edits.

The video is from the paperback edition.

-

This book contains concept art, photographs, paintings, storyboards, miniatures and live models. All are in high resolution and many printed satisfyingly huge.

For people who like mechanical stuff, you'll be glad that to know that plenty of Iron man designs are included. The drawings are detailed to the nuts and bolts. The evolution of Iron Man from concept to movie can be clearly seen from the first concept art right down to the life size cast created. The main artists involved were Ryan Meinerding and Phil Saunders.

3D modelers who are looking for blueprints won't find them in this book. However, there are renders of Iron Man Mark II and Iron Monger from the front and side view. They should be enough to build the blueprint from. There are also a couple of cool photos of the Iron maquette made by Stan Winston Studios.

Also included are the drawings for the environment, props and gadgets. That includes Tony Stark's house, his workshop and the Arc Reactor.

All the pictures in the book are well captioned and artists credited. Commentary explain clearly the production process and the effect they are trying to achieve, story development and challenges shooting the movie.

The only bad thing about the book is the paper stock. It's just my minor quibble. It is not thick enough. While black pages are cool, they become wavy after absorbing all the black ink. Luckily, it doesn't affect the visual quality of the images printed.

I still gave it a 5-star rating on Amazon -- more to 4.5-star because of the paper stock.

Rooms to Inspire in the City: Stylish Interiors for Urban Living Order Now

What I love about this "Rooms to Inspire" series is the books give you novel ideas and fresh design images with which to decorate and update your rooms. This new addition to the series is a delight. Taste is all about exposure, and this book exposes readers to current, sophisticated, exotic and eclectic interiors around the world by top designers/stylemakers including Mary McDonald, Jonathan Adler, and Peter Dunham. I particularly loved Carolina Irving's New York City apartment.

The rooms featured should stretch your parameters of style which is positive. The photos will nerve your courage to infuse a jolt of something interesting in any tired, boring or cliched rooms you feel you have at home. Good design is an expression of the owner's personality, and the rooms in this book have a strong sense of personality. No cookie-cutter copies. And although they are city rooms, much of the decor could be adapted to homes of suburban or country dwellers as well, as the cover photo, which is a particular favorite of mine, illustrates.

The book has a small section on decorating with books and city kitchens which might be appealing to many readers. While I'd seen a couple of the rooms in this book in design magazines before, they looked even better in this book. The color is vibrant--you felt you could just walk into the pages and sit down in the rooms. This book is a great resource book of fresh, cosmopolitan, and tantalizing rooms under one cover to inspire and challenge you. If you liked the other "Rooms to Inspire" books by the author, you should enjoy this latest addition to the family.Get more detail about Rooms to Inspire in the City: Stylish Interiors for Urban Living.

Cheapest The Endurance: Shackleton's Legendary Antarctic Expedition

Explorer Ernest Shackleton didn't know when he named his boat "The Endurance" that he would be foreshadowing a survival experience for the ages. The story of his nearly two years of survival in the Antarctic and southern polar areas is one of endurance and fortitude in the face of unimaginable physical hardships.

The text and the photos evoke the many emotions and thoughts that must have occurred to Shackleton and his men: loneliness, fear, raw beauty, untamed nature, comradeship, dirt, exhaustion, hopeless, and triumph. This book, more than any other I can think of, makes the case for having photos accompany non-fiction works whenever possible. The photos are stunning, especially when it's considered that they were done with glass-plate technology that had to survive the incredible journey to safety of Shackleton and his men.

A recap of the tale. Unlike some polar explorers, Shackleton was well-prepared when he went on his fateful journey in 1914. He'd held the record at one time for the overland voyage closest to the South Pole -- and almost perished on the journey -- and so he knew what to do and not to do to overcome the harsh conditions. So when he set out to make the first crossing of the Antarctic ice cap, he was ready for spending a long time on the unforgiving ice. However, due to bad luck of setting sail (yes, sail) in a wood boat during a year when the winter storms came early, he was trapped on the ice with 22 men and their dog teams.

After they wintered on the ice, living in the boat for a while and then on tents when the boat sank, Shackleton and his men truly began to suffer as they tried to find a way home. First, they tried to walk. But the terrain was so rough and they had to carry so much stuff for the long walk that they were averaging 1.5 miles per day. Then they sat on ice floes, waiting for the water to clear so that they could sail their lifeboats through treacherous waters without being crushed. And then in three boats of less than 30 feet length, they sailed several hundred miles through gales and storms over six days, only to land on one of the most isolated, desolate spots of rock in the world. From there, Shackleton set sail again in a single boat with a crew of five, and they went more than 800 miles to a speck of an island, where there was a whaling station. Of course, he landed on the opposite end of the island and had to walk over ice-covered mountains thousands of feet high in order to reach the station and ultimate rescue.

It's simply impossible to imagine living in a tent on an ice floe, with 80-mph gales blowing for days, and eating penguin or seal stakes every day for months on end. It's impossible to imagine not having a hot bath for more than two years, or enduring a ride in a waterlogged boat for in icy waters for six days, especially after already having been worn down by more than year of living in sub-human conditions. But Shackleton and the other men did it -- apparently with mostly good cheer and optimism.

Buying Little Men

Little Men was a quick read and a lovely way to continue Jo's story. I didn't think it was nearly as good as Little Women, perhaps because there are more characters and it takes place within a shorter period of time... so there is less development in each character and even more moralizing as each short story within the book has a lesson to be learned!Get more detail about Little Men.

Buy Street Stoppers: The Martial Arts Most Devastating Trips, Sweeps, and Throws for Real Fighting

Street Stoppers: The Martial Arts' Most Devastating Trips Sweeps and Throws for Real Fighting. By Mark Mireles and Loren W. Christensen.

Mark Mireles and Loren W. Christensen's, Street Stoppers, provides a unique view on how to use trips, sweeps, and throws in real world situations. As a law enforcement officer and a martial arts practitioner, I know the difference between techniques that work in the gym and those that are applicable in street encounters. In Street Stoppers, Mireles and Christensen merge their knowledge of the streets from their years of law enforcement experience and their knowledge of proven trips, sweeps, and throws. The result is a handbook on how to apply trips, sweeps, and throws in real world street encounters.

Chapter 1 of Street Stoppers starts with the mechanics of trips, sweeps, and throws to allow the reader to become familiar with the philosophy behind the book and the basic mechanics and goals of applying the moves on the street. Chapter 2 deals with trips. The next several chapters cover trips, sweeps, throws, and combinations. What makes the book unique is it provides the link between proven techniques and their applications to real world encounters. The techniques shown reveal Mireles and Christensen's familiarity with the street because not only do they show you how to apply the techniques, but also they reveal to the readers how to place themselves in a position of advantage after completing the techniques. They show you how to get in, take them down hard, and then get out to a position of safety so you can take on the next opponent.

If you want a book that will teach you how to apply proven trips, sweeps, and throws with devastating effect on the street, you need to get this book.Get more detail about Street Stoppers: The Martial Arts Most Devastating Trips, Sweeps, and Throws for Real Fighting.

Purchase For the Beauty of the Church: Casting a Vision for the Arts

For the Beauty of the Church, edited by David Taylor, is one of those unique books that addresses both the indicative and the imperative, theory and practice, head and hands. We have had many great books and teachers help us develop a theology of the arts and help us do theology through the arts, from Tolkien to Begbie to Wolterstorff to Seerveld to Rookmaaker, etc. This book, however, while including a theology of the arts "along the way," traces out the implications of this theology in the lives of pastors, artists, and the church communities with whom they live and move. It reminds me of St. Paul's `task theology" that offers theologically-contoured responses to practical questions, the primary questions here being 1) how the church can nurture and pastor the artists in its midst, and 2) how artists can offer their abilities and insights to the church.

As Taylor writes in the Introduction, this book "aims to inspire the church, in its life and mission, with an expansive vision for the arts" by offering "a complex reflection on the arts and the church - the church, that is, as the gathered community in its local manifestation and in its varied functions, such as worship, discipleship, community, service, and mission"

In this book, Taylor has pulled together an excellent group of discussion partners, each of whom are either pastors, or artists, or theologians, and sometimes all three- a group you would like to share a long evening together with over a bottle (or two) of wine in your front room. Each chapter is filled not only with theological and practical reflections but also with stories, stories of how each of the authors has attempted, both successfully and not, to bring churches and artists together "for the beauty of the church."

A few personal highlights:
Andy Crouch's use of Genesis 1-2 to remind us that art is a gift whose good cannot be reduced to its utilitarian `usefulness," but is rather a calling to participate in the larger human activity of "culture making."

John Witvliet's encouragement (chapter 2) to both churches and artists to consider how arts might become "liturgical art" and thus express, challenge, and deepen a church's corporate acts of worship: praise, confession, lament, proclamation, and sacraments, etc.

Eugene Peterson's comparison of the work of pastors with the work of artists and how his pastoral vision and identity was shaped by the Israelite artist, Bezalel, and the artists in his congregations: "they were artists, whether anyone else saw them as artists, and regardless of whether anyone would ever pay them to be artists. Being and artists was not a job. It was a way of life; it was a vocation...And it has been artists in my life - not exclusively, but more than most others - who keep the distinction sharp between vocation and job description."

Barbara Nicolosi's chapter on shepherding artists was one of my favorites. She offers suggestions for identifying, teaching, nurturing, and challenging artists to pursue excellence in their field "for the general edification of the body of Christ and for the world," because beauty and art, when done excellently, can "open a channel of revelation between God and man."

Joshua Banner's and David Taylors's chapters offered a plethora of practical suggestions and insights drawn from their long experience as "arts pastors," called to tend to the spiritual and artistic formation of artists but also to prepare their churches to receive, celebrate, and hear from the artists in their midst. As Taylor writes: "We have no business remainig naïve or impulsively enthusiastic, as if all we needed were merely more art. Rather we need good art that serves the good purposes of the church. And that requires a great deal of wisdom and humility."

And, of course, anything Jeremy Begbie writes on the arts and theology is worth reading. He offers six ways that the subversive and hope-offering Spirit might enter our present and draw us toward a future in which the arts and our churches flourish together.

Finally, David Taylor picks up Begbie's theme and looks toward a hopeful future: "My hope is that we will see churches thoughtfully develop arts programs...My hope is that we will see a greater number of young Christians entering art schools...My hope is that a greater number of seminaries will add art-related courses to their curricula...My hope is that parachurch organizations will proliferate to complement the work of the church...My hope is that there will be an increase of involvement in professional societies by believer artists...My hope is that we as Protestants will recapture a culture of patronage...I hope for an artful cultural cross-pollination...I hope to see a fruitful exchange between Christians of different denominations."

That's a lot to hope for, but Taylor not only hopes for a bright future for the arts and the church but he has offered the church a book that has the potential to help us all lean into that future and see it become a Spirit-formed reality around us.

Order The Importance of Being Earnest

Oscar Wilde's last and best-known play is a classic comedy complete with mistaken identities, biting satire, and a fair amount of punning (including a crucial pun in the title). This is Wilde at his irreverent best as he repeatedly skewers as many aspects of late 19th Century English society as he can manage.

I've occasionally heard the term "joke density" applied to comedy writing, and The Importance of Being Ernest certainly has that. Every character in the play is witty, and the jabs, barbs, and puns come fast and furious.

The story centers on two somewhat roguish young bachelors who have both created elaborate lies to help them to cover for their mischief. At different points in the play, both gentlemen have assumed the false name of Ernest, which becomes a problem once two women become involved. Two women who are both particularly enamored with the idea of marrying someone named Ernest.

The tightly plotted play has enough twists and turns to keep things interesting, and the witty dialogue never lets up.

The Avon (a HarperCollins imprint) paperback edition that I read contained a short collection of critical essays, the most interesting being a (mostly negative) review by George Bernard Shaw of the original production of the play, which raises some interesting points about the nature of comedy. I found some good insights into the career of Oscar Wilde in the introduction and the other critical pieces, but those familiar with his life and work would not be missing much by skipping these "bonus features".

The play itself was a really enjoyable work to read, and I'll keep an eye out for a chance to catch a performance of it sometime.Get more detail about The Importance of Being Earnest.

Shop For The Death and Life of Great American Cities (Modern Library Series)

In spite of the modest shortcomings that have emerged with age, I still have a deep and abiding fondness for this book... after all, it is what decided me on a career change into urban planning. And unlike much of the specialist literature that I've had to read since then, this book is thrilling, passionate, accessible, and inspiring.

For me, at a certain point -- probably about 2/3rds of the way through Death and Life -- Jacobs seems to start to repeat herself a bit, but many of her insights as to what creates vibrant neighbourhoods and vibrant cities remain as applicable today as they were when she was feuding with Robert Moses over the future of the West Village. This book should be required reading for all planners, highway engineers, and developers; many neighbourhood associations would also probably be the better for having a copy to hand.

But Jacobs' greatest strength, I believe, is that she combines great insight with clear prose that is devoid of the 'fancy' specialist terminology that practicing planners and academics use to talk about the forces driving change in neighbourhoods, towns, and metropolises. Anyone can read this book, and everyone should.Get more detail about The Death and Life of Great American Cities (Modern Library Series).

Rolando Gomez's Posing Techniques for Glamour Photography

I am a motivated amateur photographer and I really appreciate the way Rolando sets the subject forth.

There is a plethora of well diagramed examples and pictures of the various subjects he covers. Sure, there must be written commentary but it supports the examples rather than tries to carry the material all by itself.

As I didn't know the basics of posing, shot design and composition in this genre, this work provides that. From those very clear examples I have been able to work obliquely and create new work.

Of course the models and pictures are gorgeous and very easy on the eyes.

I highly recommend this work for those like myself: You don't know. You understand you don't know. But want to know.Get more detail about Rolando Gomez's Posing Techniques for Glamour Photography.

Casino Royale This instant

Very disappointed. It's a pathetic attempt at genre fiction/ pulp fiction.

Well I started with the very first book and the only one of Fleming I can claim to have read. So maybe it gets better as the James Bond series of novels of his progresses.

I read online that this first novel was rejected by publishers. The only reason it ever got published was through influence of Fleming's brother who was an established figure. I am not surprised.

This book would never get published otherwise.

I mean I have read cheap 30 pence paperback novels which were more thrilling to read than this one.

I would say Fleming's penpal Raymond Chandler is million times better at genre fiction. But then I have to read the later novels of Fleming to see if this series is really the legend that it is claimed to be.

This JAMES BOND is nothing compared to the tough Philip Marlowe or even the predecessor Sam Spade detective fiction.

In espionage, this pales in comparision to the Bourne series of Robert Ludlum which is a masterpiece when compared to CASINO ROYALE.

Any novel by Alistair MacLean would be highly recommended over Casino Royale.

But I will persist and go through the James Bond series of novels to see if it improves and gets better.

I am saddened deeply that the brilliant MATT HELM series by Donald Hamilton is out of print. Matt Helm is incredibly better espionage fiction than Casino Royale.

So is the James Bond legend only because of the Movie franchise? I would say yes even with just one novel of Fleming read so far by me. It has to be the movies and Sir Sean and the writers, stuntmen, technicians, music, that made James Bond into a cult icon and cultural legend.

REVIEW:
The names of the chapters in Casino Royale are unimaginative and tedious. Fleming overuses the word "directly" as well. The dialogue is nowhere close to the witty one-liners we recognise from the movie versions. Bond is very ordinary here. The chapters don't make you curious enough to go on to the next chapter. The action seems realistic but not thrilling enough to call it a Bond adventure.

Comparision with the movie: Daniel Craig certainly made a great version of this story, his thrilling debut as Bond. Many differences with the novel. Unlike in the movie, in the novel the unknown source of the drink at the Casino table is not poison and Bond drinks and plays on. Also Vesper Lynd is not that angel as portrayed in the movie. She doesn't deserve the love as per the novel. Also there is a long list of chapters after the win at the casino and after the torture of Bond - and all of it deals with his emotions for Vesper. Damn! This could have been published by MILLS AND BOONS if it had a happy ending. Also, the car chase and accident of Bond is different in the novel.

Anyways, not to give the plot away, but I don't regret having read the novel. It does give its insights.

Ian Fleming was indeed a spy and active during World War II. But I guess experience doesn't ensure literary merit.

I would say Graham Greene novels on espionage are way better than any of the ones by professional spies. A writer needs to know how to make the story entertaining and intriguing and a page-turner - and it seems professional spies, though giving us some good insights into their lives and actions - fail to make it into a classy genre fiction adventure.

But let's see how it changes or improves!

I remember reading in my childhood an adventure of Nick Carter Killmaster from AXE organisation which my mind feebly recalls as certainly better than Casino Royale, LOLz

RECOMMENDATIONS for reading something other than BOND Novels of Ian Fleming:

Raymond Chandler
Donald Hamilton
Alistair MacLean
Robert Ludlum

Hard to believe I never thought to get Doug's books before, especially considering that I've owned and read Barbara's (Box) books and was completely smitten with her style and storytelling abilities. Well, perhaps I should have started with Doug first. Anyone with sincere and dedicated interest in posing advice and philosophy should do themselves the service of reading this! I only wish i would have read it sooner. I've shot portraiture for nearly 15 years, with great results, over 100 weddings and model shoots, corporate and event work, you name it and I feel as though I've cheated myself and my clients, by not having read this LONG time ago. Lowest Price The Tale of Peter Rabbit

A true gem in the world of children's books, The Tale of Peter Rabbit truly stands out as one of the most charming and entertaining books for youngsters. This story tells one of the iconic Peter Rabbit's adventures. Beautifully illustrated in full color, and told with a sense of harsh honesty not often present in other children's books of this time.

Peter Rabbit, despite the warnings of his mother, enters the dreaded Mr. McGregor's garden and feasts upon the man's forbidden vegetables. When Mr. McGregor sees Peter, he begins a pursuit of Peter that lasts most of the story. Frantic, Peter does everything that he can to avoid Mr. McGregor. Peter almost gets caught, but thankfully, due to a little luck and some motivation from friends, Peter is ultimately able to escape.

The story ends with Peter hopefully having learned a lesson. He pays for his misbehavior by being too sick to enjoy dinner. A true classic, and one that I highly recommend.

Purchase Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art

This book is not strictly a graphic novel, but rather a mostly serious, occasionally whimsical analysis of the artistic medium known as "comics", done, naturally, as a comic book. McCloud attempts to define the medium itself (starting from Will Eisner's notion of "sequential art") and then proceeds to define the language of the form, and examine its various facets. Contrary to my expectations, McCloud does not make any assumptions or assertions about the actual content of comics, which to some might seem a major drawback, nor does he try to evaluate the quality of any specific style or product. Clearly, he wants to transcend such notions altogether and define the parameters of what comics could be, rather than what they all-too-often are.

McCloud investigates what there is about the medium that draws us to it, without going into such story-centric concepts as plot or characterization. He really doesn't even try to establish critical standards for this medium so much as just delineate the issues, and point out some of the difficulties inherent in a form that combines both writing and pictures.

While this may sound like a dry textbook, it's really much better than that. I most appreciated those moments (and there were many) where McCloud points out aspects of the medium that I'd always taken for granted (the gutters, for example) making me really think about facets of comics that I never even realized I knew. Maybe this book isn't as much pure fun as the comics we're used to, and certainly some of the middle chapters seemed to drag, but anytime you get the chance to look at an old friend through fresh eyes, it's got to be worth the effort. A must-read for anyone serious about comics, and a virtual bible for those interested in working in the field.Get more detail about Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art.

Shop For Drawn to Life: 20 Golden Years of Disney Master Classes: Volume 2: The Walt Stanchfield Lectures

This is a perfect book especially for those who draw without formal instruction. The books 'Drawn from Life' are notes made by a master teacher to students after a animation drawing class. Many examples include student drawings with the corrections of the instructor. The class and the instructor used ball point pen for drawing so the illustrations are perfectly clear. But the drawings are only half the story. The lively accompanying commentary has the feeling of informal speech. The stories are compelling making this a good read especially considering the fact that these are drawing books. Though I am not an animator, but a scene designer, I find that I have applied the principles taught here in filling my design sketches with figures that seem to move, making my scene designs come to life.Get more detail about Drawn to Life: 20 Golden Years of Disney Master Classes: Volume 2: The Walt Stanchfield Lectures.

Sculpting with Light: Techniques for Portrait Photographers Top Quality

When you pick up a book like this, what is your real intention? Is your goal to work for your local portrait studio? Is your goal to build your own studio and take portraits there? If you answered YES to either of these questions, then I think this is a great book for you to consider reading. If your goal is to take better pictures of your family members using your flash gun, or reach the elite level of fashion photography, then your search for the right book isn't over yet.

Allison Earnest takes you on a journey into her world of what I would call common private studio photography. This is actually the type of professional photographer that most of interact with at some point in our lives, be it our first family portrait, Senior portraits, or our wedding studio shoot. There's people like Allison in every city of the country, some of whom work independently and other who work for a large studio which sees hundreds of families daily. The techniques described in this book will teach you how to work in that industry to get results that you once paid what you thought was a lot of money for (your perception changes when you're the photographer :).

When I first skimmed through this book my first thought was "these pictures aren't that great," so I admit I went in with a negative attitude when I read this book. I quickly got annoyed with the author seemingly trying to sell me on Hensel lights throughout the book (note to editor - skip brand names if there is a next edition). However, as I read on I appreciated the authors middle chapters that offered some really good advice and tips that aren't always easy to find. Had I been the editor, I would have cut chapters 1 and 8 from the book and enhanced chapters 2 & 6. That leaves chapters 3, 4, 5, & 7 as being the real useful content in this book. For many that will be enough, especially if you don't have exposure to those concepts. I appreciated what was there, and suspect you will as well.

Skill Level: Any

Value: At retail, too much - but the going rate on Amazon is fair

Recommendation: If you are new to studio lighting and want to improve your portraiture then chapters 3 through 5 will be useful to you and probably worth the price of the book. If that isn't your goal then you shouldn't bother with this one. In the end, I say pick it up on sale and skip to the good stuff.

The Art Spirit This instant

The content of this book is timeless, superior guidance for serious artists - well, MALE artists. I am aware of the time frame of this book, yet the incessant references to him, he, his, craftsman, man, man, man, he, he, he.... were so prevalent as to be distracting. Finally, I took a black ball point pen and censored every instance of male reference. I found it much easier to concentrate on the ideas and directives after doing that. I wonder whether all these 5-star reviews were written by men.Get more detail about The Art Spirit.

The Annotated Mona Lisa: A Crash Course in Art History from Prehistoric to Post-Modern Immediately

Carol Strickland has written one of the most entertaining, comprehensive, and comprehensible books on art history currently on the market. Not only does she provide soundbites on the meaning, style, and creation of selected works (which are produced in beautiful, truthful images) she gives information about the lives of the artists. This book is probably one of the most inclusive and up-to-date works on this subject you will find. I have found it extraordinarily helpful in studying for the AP Art History exam and for the class in art history I am taking. (Recommended: reading the book's summary and volunteering your information from it in class.) If you are looking for a book to help you in that test, look no further. Even for those reading the subject merely for fun, Strickland's writing style is easy and fun to read, and bridges the often yawning gap between the art world and the real world. She shows a true gift for taking an overwhelming, sprawling subject and making ordered, objective sense of it.Get more detail about The Annotated Mona Lisa: A Crash Course in Art History from Prehistoric to Post-Modern.

High Voltage Tattoo Best Quality

High Voltage Tattoo is a beautiful book. Full gloss and full color, it forgoes the usual style of a biography for something closer to a coffee table book. Sometimes this tends towards excess: Deluy's crisp photos are sometimes Hollywood-slick (and Photoshopped), and the typography occasionally trades readability in for beauty. On the whole the book is a visual delight, lush and luxurious--but imperfect.

Similarly, High Voltage Tattoo's content indulges but never quite surpasses expectations. Putting full paragraphs to things only summarized or glimpsed in the show LA Ink provides a more intimate look into Kat's art, and a biography and list of inspirations, along with multiple details scattered throughout the book (the highlight may be a directory of Kat's own tattoos), gives a small glimpse into Kat herself. Fans will find an intriguing amount of detail and background information to appreciate. But the writing style leaves something to be desired, and sections on Kat's body of tattoo work (portraits, sleeves, lettering, etc.) seem brief. High Voltage Tattoo doesn't quite go above and beyond: it's thoughtful, beautiful, and a priveledge to read for those intrigued by Kat Von D and her art, but it feels short and fails to offer all the depth that a reader might desire. Nonetheless, I recommend it.Get more detail about High Voltage Tattoo.

Style Clinic: How to Look Fabulous All the Time, at Any Age, for Any Occasion Get it now!

The book starts out talking about a distinction between the concept of style and the concept of fashion. Style is different from fashion in the way that fashion trends come and go and style is timeless. It helps knowing exactly what works for your body type and your style personality. What pieces worth splurging and what to buy cheap. What needs to be renewed often and what will last. The book also talks about classics - the pieces that will never go out of style. I especially enjoy that part since I prefer timeless pieces over new trends. Trends come and go and there is no need to follow each one, especially considering the fact that not all trends will work well for a particular body type. As the book mentions, if one looks great in boot-cut jeans, there is no need to get into unknown territory of skinny jeans just because they are trendy at a particular time. there is no need to deviate from what has worked well for you in the past. The basic moral is - Fashion makes you desire things you should not. Shop your style, not the hottest fashion trends.

Alos the book lists some timeless classics, such as trench coat, LBD, tuxedo suit, good jeans, classic knits such as twinsets, turtleneck and v-neck sweater. Personally I am a big fan of trench coats, cashmere, good jeans, twinsets, pearls and LBD.

Then the book goes into what should be kept in your closet and what should be discarded. The more you buy, the less it seems you have to wear. Buying a lot does not mean that everything you buy will work for you, most of us buy impulsively on a whim and then end up with disfunctional wardrobe. And that's where the Style Clinic comes in.
It helps you to decide what to purge from your wardrobe and what is worth keeping.

Next subject is wardrobe basics - white shirt, cardigan in your favorite color, suit jacket that goes with your skirt, 3 pairs of pant: jeans, tailored work pants, and smart day-to-evening pants, classic LBD, couple of casual t-shirts and tank tops, dressy round-neck top as a dressy alternative to a t-shirt, day skirt, 3 pairs of shoes: boots, ballet flats and a pair of high heels. The list of basics is followed by details about each item, how to pick the right one and what to wear it with.

Also there is plenty of advice on how to find the perfect fit for your body, on using colors and prints in order to emphasize or camouflage, dressing appropriate for your age, and some successful shopper tips. Such as CBS: coat, bag, and shoes formula and other useful rules.

Second part of the book talks about each piece of clothing (jeans, skirt, dress etc.) more in depth, what to wear it with, what kind to choose for each body type, how to build a coat capsule, how to select a perfect pair of pants, a skirt, dress, accessories etc. Well illustrated with pictures of celebrities that fit a particular body type and/or wearing particular article of clothing.

I'd highly recommend this book since it has a good advice for any occasionGet more detail about Style Clinic: How to Look Fabulous All the Time, at Any Age, for Any Occasion.

2010 Photographer's Market Buy Now

I found out of the book's existence from a tweet. Got it over a month ago, but did not open it until last week when I was out of town.

I was not impressed by it at all. If I were you, I would not pay the money for it. On the regional to me (Massachusetts/New England) it is just a compilation of information generally available on-line. In fact, it was talking about opening booths/submitting to country fairs!!!! But... and here is the important thing, there are a couple of fairs in the region run by the same outfit, for WHICH THE DESCRIPTION WAS EXACTLY THE SAME. Yeah, I will make $5,000 selling prints at the Topsfield fair. Ha! ha! Now, that is lame.

Gallery information for MA was limited (although there are a number of galleries willing to accept artist's stuff).

Overall I would not recommend this book to anyone who has some years in photography. There are much better resources out there for photographers.

Save you money and do an on-line search.

Canon PowerShot G10 / G11: From Snapshots to Great Shots Decide Now

This is a first time I write a review after buying many books on Amazon, that's how much I love this book!
I 'm new to photography and after contemplating about going to the photography school, I decided that I should learn my camera first and then attend classes if needed. From what I understand, photography is mostly about practicing and knowing your camera.
I started with reading the G11 manual and was completely overwhelmed, it was like a foreign language to me. After the new books on G11 came out, I bought two of them, including this book. I'm only two chapters in, but I feel like I already can navigate through the camera and understand some of the photography terms, such as white balance, ISO, and so on. I absolutely love the assignments at the end of each chapter and little tasks throughout the chapters. It forces me to apply the knowledge right away. Thank you for the great book!Get more detail about Canon PowerShot G10 / G11: From Snapshots to Great Shots.

New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Workbook: Guided Practice in the Five Basic Skills of Drawing Right now

Betty Edwards' exercises are the bread and butter of a beginning drawing course. Don't neglect a single one! For most beginners I like to buy this workbook rather than the whole book; it's less daunting, and presents the exercises in a nice, easy to follow way.

I have my doubts about the plastic picture plane thing; it's a handy tool, but I wonder if someone might get too dependent on using it. What it's best for is learning how to flatten an image in your mind, after which you can dispense with the tool except when you're using it to hone your skills.

I recommend doing the exercises on separate paper. For one thing, the paper that the book is printed on is not of the best quality. For another, you may want to save your work for gifts or something; some of the drawings will turn out quite nice. And finally, you may want to go through the notebook many times. It pays to buy a nice Moleskine drawing notebook-I like A4 size, which gives some attractive white space around the viewfinder-rectangle. A few loose pages with more tooth to them would also be handy to have around for charcoal and conte crayon drawing.

You will want at least one ink drawing pen which is not mentioned in the list of materials in the front.

What this book will do for a beginner is teach them how to see, then how to record what they see without the analytical brain getting in the way. It will show them that an artist's skills are learned, not inborn, which is a huge component of developing confidence. In short, this is the necessary first step to learning how to draw.Get more detail about New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Workbook: Guided Practice in the Five Basic Skills of Drawing.

Lowest Price Eugenics and Other Evils

I read this old and excellent book, here in Brazil.Writen by Gilbert Keith Chesterton (29 May 1874 - 14 June 1936), when the pseudo-science of eugenics was perhaps more popular is USA, than ecology is today, this book remains excellent and relevant. And this happens, more than 80 years after its publication.
Then, eugenics was a thing supported by great american politicians, such as american Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Taft,Herbert Hoover, etc.Outside USA famous leaders such as the last Kaiser, Lenin, Stalin, etc. were eugenists.Famous scientists of this time, such as Thomas Alva Edison, Albert Einstein, Wright Brothers, Charles Lindenberg,Nicolas Tesla, etc. were eugenists.Writers such as H. G. Wells and Georger Bernard Shaw were eugenists and socialists.
At first, this book was a work of courage. It was against the political, scientific and press stablishment.
At second, this book is divided in parts:
PART ONE: THE FALSE THEORY.
PART TWO: THE REAL AIM.
I really read another ediction of this excellent book, when I could read:
"Most Eugenists are Euphemists. I mean merely that short words startle them, while long words soothe them. And they are utterly incapable of translating the one into the other, however obviously they mean the same thing. Say to them "The persuasive and even coercive powers of the citizen should enable him to make sure that the burden of longevity in the previous generations does not become disproportionate and intolerable, especially to the females?"; say this to them and they sway slightly to and fro like babies sent to sleep in cradles. Say to them "Murder your mother," and they sit up quite suddenly. Yet the two sentences, in cold logic, are exactly the same."
In another page of this book, I read:"I am myself primarily opposed to Socialism, or Collectivism or Bolshevism or whatever we call it, for a primary reason not immediately involved here: the ideal of property. I say the ideal and not merely the idea; and this alone disposes of the moral mistake in the matter. It disposes of all the dreary doubts of the Anti-Socialists about men not yet being angels, and all the yet drearier hopes of the Socialists about men soon being supermen. I do not admit that private property is a concession to baseness and selfishness; I think it is a point of honour. I think it is the most truly popular of all points of honour. But this, though it has everything to do with my plea for a domestic dignity, has nothing to do with this passing summary of the situation of Socialism. I only remark in passing that it is vain for the more vulgar sort of Capitalists, sneering at ideals, to say to me that in order to hate Socialism "You must alter human nature." I answer "Yes. You must alter it for the worse."
In the end of this book, there's a third part, with articles writen by eugenicists/eugenicists. Ironically, they were doomed by time, as false preachers.
The ediction that I read wasn't this book, published by Dodo Press.Even so, my give my congratulation to all persons, publishing the works of this genius called Gilbert Keith Chesterton (29 May 1874 - 14 June 1936).Get more detail about Eugenics and Other Evils.
